Oklahoma baseball is three wins away from a national title.

Whether or not you’ve followed the Sooners (44-22, 15-9 Big 12) all year, a title chase didn’t seem likely at the onset of the season but here they are on the cusp of the program’s third national championship and first since 1994.

For those just joining the party, here’s a few things you need to know about Oklahoma.

How they got here

OU stumbled to an 18-12 record to start the season, struggling against opponents from other power conferences and losing two of its first three Big 12 series to Oklahoma State and Texas.

The Sooners seemingly flipped the script of their season overnight, winning their final five Big 12 series and running the table at the Big 12 tournament last month.

Despite winning the Big 12’s tournament crown, the Sooners were denied a national seed — and more importantly, hosting privileges — in the NCAA tournament. OU survived the scenic route it was forced to take to Omaha, knocking off No. 14-seed Florida in the Gainesville Regional and beating No. 3 Virginia Tech in three games in the Blacksburg Super Regional.

In OU’s first trip back to Omaha since 2010, the Sooners have won their first two games at the Men’s College World Series for just the third time in school history. OU won a national championship (1951, ‘94) the other two times.

Players to know

• No. 20 Peyton Graham, INF: The redshirt sophomore is batting .345 with 92 hits and 20 home runs this season. Graham headlines a strong base-running group, leading OU with 34 stolen bases so far in 2022. Against Notre Dame on Sunday, he became the first player to record four hits and two stolen bases in a MCWS game since Arizona State's Barry Bonds

in 1984. Graham was recently named a first-team All-American by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association.

• No. 10 Tanner Tredaway, OF: Tredaway's bat has been hot over the last month of the season. He extended his hitting streak to 16 on Sunday, as did Graham. The former junior college transfer leads the Sooners with a .381 batting average and 104 hits, which includes nine home runs. Read more about Tredaway’s journey to Norman at oklahoman.com.

• No. 54 Jake Bennett, LHP: It’s difficult to only name one pitcher from a talented group that’s developed in Norman, so let’s just go with the Sooners’ most productive arm. No OU player has pitched more innings than Bennett (110.2 IP), he leads the Sooners' pitching staff with 10 wins and his team-leading 123 strikeouts is 29 more than the next OU pitcher. Bennett last started against Texas A&M on Friday, helping the Sooners win 13-8 to open the MCWS. Bennett currently owns a 3.66 ERA, which is only second on the team to Trevin Michael's 2.74.

Who to follow

If you’re looking to add a few new Twitter follows to stay up-to-date with all the action in Omaha, here are a few folks that cover OU baseball as well as anyone.

• Toby Rowland (@TRowOU): Few have the access Rowland does as the radio play-by-play voice for OU baseball. Rowland often shares news and notes not seen elsewhere on the beat — and obviously, does a great job of calling the action on OU’s radio network. Want to listen? Find your local affiliate at soonersports.com.

• Eddie Radosevich (@Eddie_Radio): You likely already follow him, but you can’t mention OU baseball Twitter follows without bringing up Radosevich. His passion for baseball shines in his coverage of Skip Johnson’s crew, providing a perfect blend of information and analysis to the beat.

• Josh Callaway (@JoshMCallaway): Reporting for SI.com's OU affiliate (All Sooners), Callaway was consistently on the ground covering OU this season and is in Omaha for the MCWS. On top of the articles he produces, Callaway’s game threads are top notch, especially for those who can’t watch in real time.

When does OU play next?

Oklahoma will face the winner of Tuesday’s elimination game between Notre Dame and Texas A&M at 1 p.m. CT Wednesday on ESPN.

• If the Sooners win, they’ll move on to the Men’s College World Series’ best-of-three championship series, scheduled to begin Saturday.

• If the Sooners lose, the teams will meet again Thursday (time TBD) and the winner will advance to the MCWS championship series.

Yes, THAT Barry Bonds.
