A new wave of mobile quarterbacks will put Oklahoma's defense to the test early and often
Facing a dual-threat quarterback used to be a novelty. But like the Sooners and Huskers’ gridiron series, that novelty is a thing of the past.
The game has evolved, sped up and increasingly become smarter. With that, seeing multiple dual-threat quarterbacks a season should be expected with offenses placing more of an emphasis on keeping their options open every play.
Adrian Martinez, Nebraska’s starting quarterback entering Saturday’s game in Norman, has multiple ways he can beat you, to which OU’s staff is well aware.
“He's one of those guys, you can have somebody account for him. But at the same time, sometimes he can just beat that guy, too,” OU coach Lincoln Riley said during his news conference on Tuesday. “I mean, his athleticism, it jumps off the screen. I think he's really improved as a passer. You can tell they’re settling in with what they want to do with him and he does it well.”
